Summer Camp 2023
California Area School District teachers and administrators will offer summer camps for students on campus. The details for each summer camp are listed below for the registration. Summer camp runs from 9:00 - 12:00 and are limited to 25 students per camp. There is no cost for the summer camps due to grant funding and transportation will be provided for those interested. Summer Camp registration will open Friday, March 3, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. and is first-come first-serve for registration.
Title: Paper Airplane Launchers
Dates: June 5 - 9, 2023
Ages 10 and up
Teacher: Mr. Ruddle
Description: During this camp, students will be creating motorized paper airplane launchers to launch various paper airplane designs. After assembly, the launcher will be used to perform some inquiry based learning activities. The pieces for the airplane launcher will be created using the a laser cutter. Assembly of the launcher will require students to use super glue, Exacto knives, and soldering pencils.

Description: Are you interested in drawing, painting, or sculpting? This summer camp will allow you to express yourself through different art mediums. Together we will learn how to use our five primary emotions: happiness, sadness, anger, surprise, and disgust to create some really cool art!.

Description: Students will develop skills in research, critical thinking, organization, persuasion and communication.
Title: Nature Week
Dates: June 19 - 23, 2023
Ages 7 and Up
Teacher: Mrs. Oakes
Description: Students will learn about nature by taking nature walks, having scavenger hunts using things in nature, making bird feeders and bird houses, seeing what items in nature sink or float in water, painting rocks and creating a rock bed, and doing leaf rubbings.
Title: Outdoor Adventures!
Dates: June 19 - 23, 2023
Ages 12-18
Teacher: Mr. Pollock and Ms. Wolfe
Description: Interested in the outdoors? This fun and interactive summer camp is just for you! We will explore the outdoors in the backyard of our beautiful campus, cook different meals on a campfire, learn about camping life, and end the week with a field trip to Ohiopyle to learn about white water rafting on the Middle Yough. This camp will run Monday-Thursday (regular hours) and have extended hours on Friday to accommodate the field trip. This summer camp is the perfect blend of fun, physical activity, environmental sciences, and family/consumer science skills.

Description: We will take tours to local colleges and universities that are of interest to students who register for the camp.
Title: Outdoor School
Dates: July 10 - 14, 2023
Ages 6 - 11
Teacher: Miss Christopher
Description: Outdoor School is a camp where students are able to interact with the beauties of nature through observations and investigations. During our hikes, we will observe different types of birds and trees that are common in Pennsylvania. We will get to experience what it is like to be a bird, as we attempt to create our own nests. Along with exploring nature, students will practice basic camping and communication skills through our team-building exercises. We will conclude the camp with a bonfire to celebrate all of the hard work we have done throughout the week. Outdoor School will be a fun-filled adventure, that will create lasting memories and friendships.

Dates: July 24 - 28, 2023
Ages 12-18
Teacher: Mrs. Nicholson
Description: Students will learn the basics of flower arranging using both real and silk flowers. Students will be able to identify a variety of flowers and learn how to take care of them.
Title: 3D Print and Build Your Own Remote-Controlled Jeep
Dates: July 24 - 28, 2023
Ages 8 and Up
Teacher: Dr. Jacob
Description: Students will 3D print and build their own 1/10 size Jeep Wrangler and learn how to wire it for remote control power. Due to the complexity of the project, this camp will run 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Title: Soap Box 500
Dates: August 2 - 4, 2023
Ages 8 - 13
Teacher: Mr. Hoffman
Description: Campers will have the opportunity to work as a team and construct a soap box derby car and drive/race their car down Little Trojan Hill. The focus will be on teamwork, assembling the car, painting and designing their team logo. Each camper will receive a mini soap box car to take home at the end of camp. Campers are required to bring with them each day a bicycle style helmet. The official race will be held on August 4, 2023.
Title: Camping Adventures
Dates: August 7 - 11, 2023
Ages 8-12
Teacher: Mrs. Bonelli
Description: During this summer camp, students will embark on a week full of camping activities. From learning how to set up a tent, cooking campfire meals, woodworking crafts and a field trip to Ohiopyle students will learn not only the technical skills needed for camping but the love and fun that comes from being outdoors with friends.
