Joshua J. Pollock, Ed.D
Joshua Pollock, secondary school principal, is a proud alumnus of the California Area School District. After high school graduation, Pollock earned his Bachelor of Education degree and a Master of Education degree from California University of Pennsylvania (now known as PennWest - California University). He also obtained an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certificate through Penn State - Fayette, The Eberly Campus, a Principal’s Certificate, and a Supervisory Certificate for Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Pittsburgh. Pollock completed his doctorate at Point Park University, where his research focused on the implementation of a residential therapy dog program and its impacts on attendance rates and academic achievement.
Pollock has taught students of all ages and grade levels - pre-kindergarten through high school seniors, undergraduate and graduate level programs, and adult education courses. He has worked or taught for the California Area School District, Charleroi Area School District, Diocese of Greensburg (St. Sebastian’s Regional Catholic School), Central Greene School District (Waynesburg Central High School), California University of PA, and Penn State - Fayette.
Pollock is the first therapy dog handler for the California Area School District’s therapy dog program. Since its founding in 2021, the therapy dog program has grown to include up to 13 dogs at its peak. Pollock is frequently approached by educational institutions seeking guidance on implementing therapy dogs programs, including research and logistical considerations.
Pollock is a member of the PA Principals’ Association and has attended education conferences for AASA, League of Innovative Schools, Digital Promise, and other professional organizations.
