California Area School District

Special Education/Gifted

Special Education services are available to all students. Teachers and/or parents may refer students who are experiencing difficulty learning or who are thought to be gifted. Students identified as exceptional and in need of specially designed instruction will have individualized education plans developed. Parental involvement is critical throughout the duration of the student’s time in the special education program.

When a student has a documented disability and is not in need of specially designed instruction but rather accommodations, he/she is evaluated by a knowledgeable team of people. This team, including the parents, will determine the presence of a disability and the need for educational accommodations.
